Event Details

Canberra's Aya Yves burst onto the scene with her debut dark-pop release ‘(in)Sanity’ and since then, has moved from strength to strength. Known for her honest and vulnerable approach to songwriting, combined with haunting vocals - it’s no surprise that she has amassed over 700, 000 streams with her steadily growing fanbase.

Her debut EP ‘What We Look Like With The Light On’ (produced by Xavier Dunn - CXLOE, Peking Duk, Jack River) contrasts light airy vocals with dark, brooding and quirky production. Aya takes lyrical inspiration from generations of storytellers such as Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen and combines her lyricism with sonic influences such as Bon Iver, London Grammar & BANKS. With all this in mind - it comes as no shock that the songwriter placed in the Top 40 of the prestigious Vanda & Young Global songwriting competition with her song ‘Brave’, shortly followed by winning Listen Up Music’s Jobseeker Anthem ‘Songwriting Prize’ in 2021. If all this wasn’t enough - the Canberran artist caught the eye of industry icon Boy George, which led to a release of their duet ‘The Trouble With Love’ in July of 2021.

Though Aya has solidified herself as a recording artist- her true strength is live performance. Though the project was launched throughout the pandemic, Aya’s determination led to being selected to showcase as a finalist for the APRA AMCOS & Mardi Gras Express Yourself- Queer Discovery Showcase, performing multiple times for Isolaid, opening for Hands Like Houses and packing out two shows at the iconic Oxford Art Factory- no small feat for an independent emerging artist.

Returning to the stage for 2022 with a headline show at Newtown's iconic venue - The Vanguard - don't miss your opportunity for an other-worldly experience.
