Newcastle-based electronic artist Atlas Franklin Alexander has revealed his variegated debut EP ‘Enter Echo’ – produced by the artist himself, with various songs mixed by Thomas Rawle (Papa vs Pretty).

Featuring previous singles ‘Ancient Choreography’, ‘Valis 五百四’ and ‘Sonder’ – co-written with William J Coleman – the EP is six tracks of diverse electronica, abounding with palliative synthesisers and mind-altering melodies. Drawing inspiration from relationships and everyday observances, ‘Enter Echo’ garners a terrarium of kaleidoscopic notions, flaunting an array of devices and techniques to encapsulate Atlas’ artistic visions and abilities.

“The entire EP was recorded in many different locations,” Atlas comments on the making of ‘Enter Echo’. “In the back of my car, on park benches, libraries, hotel rooms, ashrams, garages, friends lounge rooms, bus stops, monasteries, on trains and on planes. Anywhere and everywhere you can put a laptop down basically.”

Alongside the EP release is the perplexing accompanying video for title track ‘Enter Echo’ – filmed and edited by Toa Doguet. Shot in Northern India, the clip follows Atlas’ journey of self-discovery through a scenic landscape, inspiring a transformative rebirth. Featuring gorgeous cutaways of the picturesque environment, confronting close-ups and a guerrilla-style execution, the music video is an encapsulation of Atlas’ personal experiences.

“The song was written about tripping on DMT and all the wonderful and terrifying things that come with that,” Atlas says about the themes of the video. “I basically wanted to encapsulate that experience into a song and then into an accompanying video. The locations where we shot the video couldn't have been more suited to capture that dream-like state of consciousness you experience whilst under the influence.”

Previous singles have seen praise from the likes of triple j, triple j Unearthed, 3RRR, RadioAdelaide and Edge Radio. He has also received online support from Tone Deaf, Pilerats, Junkee, Forte, AAA Backstage, Life Without Andy and Scenestr. He also performed as part of the 2018 line-up at BIGSOUND.

March 2022, Atlas Franklin Alexander sold out his first show back after the lockdowns in his hometown of Newcastle. June 9th 2022 is set for the Sydney EP launch show at Oxford Art Factory with support from Mirimar and Trip Fandino.
