Raised on the shores of Bondi Beach, Freeds discovered early on creativity lived within him. Spending his days in a single mother household within a Jewish family, he embraced his creative side through drawing, playing piano and scribbling poetry.

                       

Freeds has always chopped and changed his life journey, lacking the ability to walk a straight line, but his connection to music has always been consistent. From the first listen to his music, it’s clear he’s a self-aware artist. For the better part of a decade, Freeds has been based in Melbourne, forming his own identity - one that sheds light on his journey through struggles with mental health and dependency. Ultimately, his music is optimistic - there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

                       

Freeds’ sound floats across genres but finds a middle ground between indie-pop and hip-hop, while evoking childhood nostalgia. Drawing from live instrumentation and sampling; he captures the emotion of troubled times over sunny backdrops. Favourable comparisons to Rex Orange County & Chance The Rapper are fitting; the songwriting is as clever as it is catchy.

                       

After recently putting out his debut EP Baby Steps, Freeds has given us a taste of his follow-up project with the new single Fruit Bats, a playful slice of low-fi pop. It’s already been given the Triple J nod of approval with some airtime on Home & Hosed, Declan Byrne describing it as an “offbeat” and “charming pop effort”.

                       

Freeds is now on the Niche Productions (Jordan Rakei, Winston Surfshirt) roster and will be playing his first headline show in March. Though his self-doubt may sometimes overshadow his growth, there is definitely no doubt in the fact that Freeds has a unique story we need to hear.
