Event Details

Nadje Noordhuis will be guest soloist with Divergence Jazz Orchestra, performing a program of Australian contemporary big band music.

Described as "one of the most compelling voices to emerge on her instrument in recent years" (All about Jazz), Australian-born New York based trumpeter/composer Nadje Noordhuis will be featured as guest soloist with Divergence Jazz Orchestra. The program of new and recent music by Jenna Cave, Andrew Murray, Miroslav Bukovksy, Paul Cutlan and others will also showcase vocalist Marie Le Brun and the brilliant musicians of Divergence Jazz Orchestra.

Possessing one of the most unforgettably lyrical voices in modern music; Noordhuis’ deeply-felt, clarion tone meld classical rigor, jazz expression, and world music accents into a sound that is distinctively her own. Based in New York since 2003, she is a member of the multiple Grammy-winning Maria Schneider Orchestra, Grammy-nominated Darcy James Argue's Secret Society, and the Grammy-nominated Anat Cohen Tentet.

Since their inception in 2012 the 19-member Divergence Jazz Orchestra have established a unique and inspired artistic voice, with two albums of original music and dozens of performances and collaborations. Directed by Jenna Cave (composer/conductor) and Paul Weber (trombone), Divergence boasts a powerful and beautifully balanced orchestral sound anchored in groove, exhibiting immense sensitivity and subtlety and breaking from the big band tradition of old. Made up of an array of exceptional soloists and ensemble players from Sydney, Divergence celebrates outstanding Australian composers and improvisers who diverge from the status quo.
