Experimental & emotional/ art & blues / groove / free improvisation

Anoesis are excited to return to LazyBones Lounge to launch their second album 'Dancing Waters'. Recorded through the 2MBS Fine Music Jazz-Artist-in-Residence program, 'Dancing Waters' features original instrumental compositions of the band that evoke the rainforest and coastal landscapes of eastern Australia; their majesty and beauty as well as the darker history of invasion and colonial accountability for ecosystems.

Based in Eora/Sydney, the group was recently named 2MBS Fine Music's 2021-2022 Jazz-Artist-in-Residence, and in 2019 received the 'Best Band' runner-up award at the Bucharest International Jazz Competition. Performing two sets of original compositions with refined presence and raw intensity, the group strike a balance between experimental and emotional, art and the blues, groove and free improvisation, creating a unique voice in the Australian music scene.

Anoesis are:  Greg Stopic - Alto Saxophone, Alistair Johsnton - Tenor Saxophone, Eitan Muir - Guitar, Tomas McKeever Ford - Double Bass & Ryu Kodama - Drums

Jiem is a contemporary jazz group that traverses gracefully between soft playfulness and brash intensity. Emerging out of Sydney’s jazz scene, close collaborators:

Tessie Overmyer (saxophone), Miles Rooney (trumpet), Ryu Kodama (drums), Harry Birch (bass), and Matt Harris (Piano) mark an exciting new chapter in Australian Jazz.

Their approach is varied and inventive, reminiscent of musical authorities such as Phil Slater, Simon Barker, Andrea Keller, and Jonathan Zwartz. The unique personalities and stylistic qualities of each member interact to form a synergetic ensemble sound that is far greater than the sum of its parts.
