CHECK OUT THE LATEST
Children of the ’80s and ’90s rejoice as Will Smith announced recently on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that he and DJ Jazzy Jeff will be re-uniting for a DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince tour in 2016.
Rather than just re-hash their amazing string of hits such as Parent’s Just Don’t Understand and Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble though, the duo are apparently hard at work on new material. Let’s just hope it’s in a different direction to the recent childhood ruining feature Smith did on Bomba Estereo’s track Fiesta.
Smith, who also went on to have a very successful solo career later in the ’90s and early ’00s with the now iconic Big Willie Style, the equally punny pre-millennial follow up Willennium (the less said about the subsequent pun-lacking album the better) initially stopped touring with Jazz after he began working full-time on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air TV series.
News of the tour came out during a segment on The Tonight Show where Will said it was strange working in the studio alongside his daughter Willow Smith, of Whip My Hair fame. Fallon, ever the expert interviewer, caught the hint, being quick to question Smith about it. Smith then nonchalantly confirmed that he is indeed writing new material and he is planning a 2016 tour with Jazz, as if he didn’t even intend to promote it. Damn he’s good.
And while those of use who miss the younger version of Smith may be a little disappointed he won’t be turning up in the new Independence Day sequel Resurgence, at least we have this to look forward to.
No news yet on when or where the tour is happening (ahem, hi remember us down here?) or whether Smith will be performing hits from his solo career as well as those of the duo, in the meantime relive your weekday afternoons with Smith and Jazz’s timeless intro to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. You know you remember all the words.
