Watch The Trippy Clip For The National’s New Song ‘Day I Die’

The National have unveiled the fourth single from their forthcoming album, and following the lead of the previous three this latest track has come with its own music video.

‘Day I Die,’ which was premiered live during a 2016 benefit concert, is accompanied by a truly trippy music video by director Casey Reas. Reas was also responsible for each of the other clips accompanying the previous three singles.

The video is shot as a time-lapse of the band and was compiled using over 5,000 separate images which were then compressed into a video using brand new editing software, created by Reas himself.

“A flickering color layer abstracted from broadcast television signals augments the black and white footage,” said the director in a statement. “The images are played back at 12fps, near the threshold of the persistence of vision.”

The seventh studio album from The National will be titled Sleep Well Beast and has been touted for release on September 8th.
