This year the life and career of Amy Winehouse will be the subject of a new documentary, titled Amy. The film is directed by BAFTA-winning director Asif Kapaida and its first teaser trailer goes right for the feels, being at once devastating and poignant.
The film will feature unheard Amy Winehouse recordings and archival footage and will document Winehouse’s journey from childhood in North London and her rise to fame, and all its trappings, until her tragic death from alcohol poisoning in 2011.
The emotional teaser clip features audio of Winehouse describing her reluctance towards fame in the lead up to the release of her Grammy-winning album Back to Black in 2006.
“Singing has always been important to me, but I never thought I’d end up singing or be a singer. I just thought I’m lucky that it’s something I can always do if I want to,” Winehouse says as Back to Black plays in the background.
“I’m not a girl trying to be a star or trying to be anything besides a musician,” Winehouse adds. “I don’t think I’m gonna be at all famous. I don’t think I could handle it. I’d probably go mad.”
Amy is set to premiere in the UK on July 3rd this year, nearly four years after Winehouse’s death. An Australian release date has yet to be announced.
