Fresh from rocking Byron stages during their raucous Splendour In The Grass sets, New York City band Skaters dropped by triple j this morning for Like A Version and paid tribute to fellow NYC band The Ramones with a blistering cover of the track Judy Is A Punk.
Donned in matching red tracksuits, the band ripped into classic punk rock tune as a homage of sorts to the recent passing of punk icon and founding Ramones drummer, Tommy Ramone, and at just over a minute and a half delivered the shortest cover in Like A Version history.
As a New York band, Skaters explained The Ramones’ music is entrenched in the punk roots of their hometown, and it is almost impossible not to be influenced by it. While in the studio, the boys also performed their own song Miss Teen Massachusetts, which features on their 2014 debut album Manhattan.
