Watch PUP Give Phantogram A Punk Makeover For ‘Like A Version’

Canadian punk rockers PUP are the latest act to step up and have a bat at triple j‘s weekly Like A Version covers segment, trying their hands at an unexpected tune.

The lads, who are currently here for a headlining tour, busted out a rendition of Phantogram‘s 2016 electro-pop earworm You Don’t Get Me High Anymore, riffing up the original with guitars taking over the digital production parts (with a dual guitar-mony bridge chucked in for good measure) and frontman Stefan Babcock’s banshee vocals building in intensity until they hit peak rasp right at the end of the song.

Following the performance, the singer explained how he’d essentially shredded his vocal chords over years of screaming his lungs out at punk rock shows, but thankfully, after some intensive rehab, he can now sing songs with female vocals again.

While at JHQ, PUP also busted out a rendition of their original DVP from their 2nd album The Dream Is Over. Catch clips of both performances, below.
