Slash Almost Joined The Stone Roses After Leaving Guns N’ Roses, But Got Turned Down

Turns out that Slash has a bit of a taste for rosy named bands as the former replacement guitarist for The Stone Roses Aziz Ibrahim has revealed that the top hatted one tried to join the band after he left Guns N’ Roses in 1996.

Ultimate Guitar reports, while speaking on the Stagelift Podcast, Ibrahim was all to happy to discuss the state of affairs in The Stone Roses camp at the time.

With guitarist John Squire having left the band only a couple of months before Slash left the Gunners,  Ibrahim explains that there was a lot of bitterness informing the decision making process around the iconic guitarist’s potential inclusion in the band.

“Slash had offered to play. There was a lot of bitterness and anger and so forth, maybe they wanted to piss [John] off, so they thought, ‘Let’s get the greatest rock icon of all time,’” he divulged.

However in the end, it was matters of fashion that put a damper on Slash’s plan to join the band. “Afterwards they thought, ‘Yeah yeah, we’ll get this big rock icon, that would really annoy John.’ Then they said something to the affect of, ‘We’re not going to work with a guy with leather pants, are we?’”

You know what they say, clothes make the man.

While there has been no word from Slash on how he feels about being rebuffed due to his taste in trousers, we’ve got a pretty good idea of what he would say given the chance.
