Watch Hilltop Hoods Perform “The Most Unfortunately Named Song of 2014? With Illy, Drapht, Seth Sent

As part of triple j‘s Beat The Drum 40th birthday concert, Aussie rap stalwarts Hilltop Hoods teamed up with some of the country’s most influential rappers to close out the night’s festivities. Official footage is now available, showing Hilltop Hoods – with their mates Illy, Drapht, Seth Sentry, Horrorshow, Tkay Maidza and Thundamentals in tow – performing their hit single Cosby Sweater.

As Music Feeds reviewer Sarah White noted, Hilltop Hoods told the Beat The Drum crowd that Cosby Sweater is the “most unfortunately named song of 2014?, but that didn’t stop them from blasting out an epic extended version of the song for the 25,000 people in attendance.

The performance (in full, below) saw Hilltop Hoods’ special guests provide extra verses celebrating triple j, poking fun at Taylor Swift and calling out the song’s controversial namesake, comedian Bill Cosby.

Hilltops acknowledged that they “regret name-checking Bill Cosby” back in November, stating that they had only recently become aware of the multiple rape allegations against the comedian. They also pulled merchandise featuring Cosby’s image from their website.

Two highlights sets recorded at Beat The Drum will be broadcast as part of triple j’s Live At The Wireless program at 8pm tonight, Monday, 19th January, and again at 5pm on Sunday, 25th January.

Other acts who performed at the concert include The Presets, Megan Washington, Hermitude, The Cat Empire and Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns, who performed a moving cover of Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit.
