Watch Guy Sebastian Wow Punters With His Splendour In The Grass Debut

It’s been a long and winding journey, but Guy Sebastian was finally at Splendour In The Grass last night, picking up the pieces, walking back into the light, and kicking off a new chapter in a career that began with his historic defeat of Shannon Noll 13 long years ago.

The orig Aus Idol made his official transition from TV-manufactured popstar to legitimate hipster-bonafide artist on Splendour’s Tiny Dancer stage yesterday evening.

You could say that angels brought him here, but really it was Gold Coast dancemaster Paces, who recruited Sebbers for a live rendish of their hit Like A Version collab-cover of LDRU.

Not only did it mark Guy’s historic SITG debut, but it was also a massive hit with punters (n.b. not his usual middle-aged mum demographic).

Wrapping his golden pipes around Keeping Score, the pop crooner performed to thunderous applause and got the Tiny Dancer tent pumping and singing along in a storm of confetti rain.

Even fans of Sebastian’s arch-nemesis Nollsy, who launched a petition to get the Condobolin sheep wrangler to play Splendour earlier this year to no avail (#robbedagain) could reportedly be heard cheering amid loud chants of “Bring back the fro!”

Seems like we could be entering an exciting new era for Guy Sebastian, and if so, let the records show it all started right here at Splendour In The Grass on Saturday night.

Catch fan-shot footage of his historic performance below.
