Canadian electronic impressionist Grimes debuted three new tracks during her performance at the Governors Ball festival in New York over the weekend. Among the new compositions was Go, a track that Grimes revealed she originally co-wrote with LA producer Blood Diamonds for Rihanna.
“Also for those at gov ball, u should stick around for my final song because its special & top secret & new, actually im playin 3 new songs,” Grimes tweeted, “but the last song is one me and [Blood Diamonds] wrote for Rihanna but they turned it down it so its kinda different from regular Grimes.”
The track is indeed a departure from the producer’s often ethereal and chilled out tracks, featuring glitchy dubstep passages and a slick R&B-style verse. The three new tracks — Go, David, and Sleepwalking — were played between a cover of Blood Diamonds’ Phone Sex and cuts from Grimes’ last studio album, Visions, which she said have been “re-recorded and reproduced.”
As NME reports, the producer recently hinted that the follow-up to 2012's Visions will be released this September. The album will be her first since signing with Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation management — the same company that handles Rihanna — which she described as like “[joining] the X-Men.”
