Watch Gang Of Youths’ Stirring Cover Of A Noughties Indie Hit For ‘Like A Version’

Gang Of Youths have made their triumphant return to triple j‘s Like A Version covers segment with a stirring cover of ‘Blood’ by defunct Townsville band The Middle East.

After dropping a cryptic clue as to what song the band would cover — “Everybody’s got it. Everybody has it” — Gang Of Youths frontman Dave Le’aupepe joined his bandmates for their multi-layered take on ‘Blood’, which came complete with keys, strings and the usual Gang Of Youths epicness.

“That song had a huge and tremendous impact on our adolescence,” said Le’aupepe of the song, explaining how much the “formative” track has helped him and his bandmates.

While in the triple j studios, Gang Of Youths also performed their original song ‘The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows’, from their latest album Go Farther In Lightness.

Le’aupepe also addressed triple j ‘Breakfast’ hosts Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton’s recent on-air speech about their own mental health, telling the boys, “I personally believe you are worthy successors to this job.”
