Footage has just emerged of an epic late night jam session between thrash metal gods Exodus and Fear Factory‘s Dino Cazares at Sydney’s favourite rock n’ roll dive bar, Frankies Pizza By The Slice, during Soundwave week, last month.
The metal allstars took the stage late at the Hunter Street venue on February 24th, the Tuesday night before the Sydney leg of the festival, to jam on a chuggin’ rendition of the classic Exodus song, Piranha, off their 1985 album, Bonded By Blood .
“Proof that anything goes at Sydney’s one and only FRANKIE’S PIZZA BY THE SLICE,” said venue manager, and drummer for Sydney rockers THE ART, Jordan McDonald.
Frankies’ self-proclaimed Beer Monster also told Music Feeds that Exodus refused to start playing until the entire room had formed a circle pit. Naturally, punters enthusiastically obliged, transforming the entire bar into a living, breathing ring of thrash metal mayhem.
It was just one highlight in a monster week for the Sydney venue, which reportedly also enjoyed the company of artists from Soundwave bands such as Deathstars, Antemasque, Escape The Fate, Papa Roach and Marilyn Manson (although, sadly, not Manson himself).
And in the midst of all the Soundwave action, who else should crash the party on Thursday 26th February but the one and only Foo Fighters, fresh from their packed out show at Sydney’s ANZ stadium.
Witnesses have told Music Feeds that Dave Grohl could be seen sculling tequila in the downstairs’ saloon bathroom, but McDonald could not confirm, responding with only a wink.
The Exodus/Fear Factory cameo, meanwhile, took place on a particularly epic Tuesday night, with a legion of Soundwave acts descending upon Frankies after checking out the Slash and Judas Priest Sidewaves.
In anticipation, the venue’s regularly scheduled Tuesday night Live Karaoke session started later, with Stix Zadinia from Steel Panther becoming one of the night’s eager contestants.
The beatman stepped up to drum on a rendition of AC/DC’s Highway To Hell and Paradise City by Guns N’ Roses. Sadly, McDonald says there are no plans to release that footage, out of respect for the musicians who just wanted to “f**k around and have a good time”.
However, the officially shot footage of Exodus and Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares is available now for your viewing pleasure. Check it out below and head to the official Frankie’s website to find out what other live music surprises the Pizza bar has cooking up.
