During her performance in Denver on Tuesday night, our very own Courtney Barnett provided some solace for her adoring American fans, performing a cover of Aussie musician Dan Kelly’s Drunk On Election Night, no doubt echoing the sentiments of many throughout the free world.
The song was first release back in 2006 by Dan Kelly & The Alpha Males, a key performer on their album Drowning in the Fountain of Youth. It appears that Barnett’s rendition was fairly spontaneous, with the muso at one point appearing to stumble through the words, so this was no doubt a rare moment for fans in attendance.
The whole music community doesn’t seem too stoked with President-elect Donald Trump so far, with just about all the industry’s big names, including a number of Aussies, coming out to comment on Trump’s win.
But it’s all too late now, all we can really do now is take heed from Barnett’s cover and, well, get drunk.
Sigh.
