Not only was the curtain-closer a huge milestone for the earth-conquering Sydney producer, who played his first ever festival show at Splendour at the tender age of 21 (nek minnut he’s playing some of the world’s biggest on the reg), the good vibes were amplified by the fact that Harley Streten used his set as a platform to support some of Australia’s best emerging talent.
His epic, star-studded headlining performance included cameos from the likes of Vera Blue, Ngaiire, Kucka, Remi, Baro and Jess Kent, and he’s just dropped some A+ behind-the-scenes footage of their rehearsals together in the lead-up to #SITG2016.
In a new tour video entitled Adventures (Australia & New Zealand 2016), we get to see an adorably excited and slightly nervous Flume prep for his milestone return to Australia’s biggest festival.
“Splendour for me… It’s a big one,” he tells us pre-set (and just try to fight the urge to wanna give him a big ol’ hug). “I’ve come to this festival since I was 19 years old, and you know I played my first ever festival performance here – and then again 2 years later I played a headliner in the Mix-Up tent – and then 2 years we’ve come back and here we are! We’re doing the amphitheatre stage – so the main stage – and we’re gonna close it, which is nuts for me, it’s kinda surreal.”
The genuineness of Flume’s gratitude and humility in the face of such a huge accomplishment will 100% make you heart him ever more eternally.
Bonus points for surfing the longest break of his life in the icy waters of Dunedin.
