Triple j will next week release their 10th Like A Version compilation album and to celebrate a decade of covers the station is hosting a day filled with some of the segment’s most memorable performances. Adding to the celebrations, Brisvegas indie outfit Ball Park Music stopped by the studio to perform a cover of Vampire Weekend‘s 2013 track Diane Young.
Punters who have caught the the quirky quintet in their live setting are well aware of their cover song abilities, lest we forget their Splendour In The Grass version of the Queen classic Bohemian Rhapsody, complete with an epic, thunderous gong. They continued to bolster their stellar reputation this morning with the jangly Vampire Weekend cover, throwing in some hip shaking for good measure.
While in the studio this morning the band also performed a beautiful stripped back version of their track She Only Loves Me When I’m There, which features on their latest album Puddinghead. The stunning rendition featured the band’s signature harmonies. Watch both performances below.
Like A Version was originally created by former triple j presenter Mel Bampton as part of the Mel in the Morning program. It kicked off with Sydney’s SPOD who took on the segment’s namesake, Madonna‘s Like A Virgin. According to triple j, that cover unfortunately didn’t make the cut of the first ever Like A Version compilation album that was released in 2005.
Volume 10 of Like A Version is out next week. Ball Park Music continue their revolutionary Trippin’ The Light Fantastic national tour at The Forum in Melbourne this Saturday, 4th October. See all the remaining tour dates below.
