The bronze figure erected at the Rainbow Bar & Grill, an LA spot he was a regular at, was the result of a Kickstarter campaign by die-hard fan Katon De Pena who met Lemmy once in the ’90s.
She needed $21,000 to make it a reality but she ended up passing the goal, securing $22,000. Lemmy has now been immortalised at the bar and this short film follows the process from the very beginning.
Director Rocio Romero is the man behind the six-minute film which features de Pena and artist Travis Moore who created the statue. Some of Moore’s early sketches are showcased in the film which largely documents how the statue was created.
It also features the owner of the bar Mikey Maglieri who discusses the process behind deciding how they wanted to honour Lemmy.
“We were thinking of so many different ways to honour Lemmy and what we could do, and I don’t think there’s anything better than having a life-size bronze statue,” he said.
