Vampire Weekend Are “Definitely” Making A Fourth Album But It’s Not Coming Soon

It’s almost two years to the date since Vampire Weekend release their third album Modern Vampires Of The City but it seems like a fourth LP is still in the distant future.

In an interview for No Effects Podcast (Via CoS) frontman Ezra Koenig said the band were currently in the “off-period” and “working on some other things, doing things here and there but you know, really just trying to not think about music too much.”

Despite these attempts at not thinking too much about music, the band are seemingly still allowing for thoughts about their fourth album to seep into their consciousness. “Right now we’re definitely gearing up to start working on another album, but we’re not in a zone of like getting in there everyday or anything,” he said.

The New York natives haven’t officially entered the studio for album number four, but they already have a few tracks that could appear on the next album. Koenig revealed there are “songs that just weren’t quite right for the last album” that he’s “very excited about for the next record.”

But here’s the clincher, the one that Vampire Weekend fans won’t like hearing. “I’m not in a rush to…to dive into making an album because I feel like I want the next album to kinda feel like a new era anyway,” Koenig said, meaning we’re going to have to wait even longer for a new record.

That’s not to say there’s no new music by members of the band on the way. Bassist Chris Baio is gearing up to release his debut solo album, following his Sunburn and Mira EPs.

Keyboardist and guitarist Rostam Batmanglij is also making a name for himself as a producer, having produced two songs for the latest Charli XCX record Sucker.
