Triple j has announced that its current review into the date of its Hottest 100 countdown will lead to a decision on future Hottest 100s being made in the “second half of 2017”.
In September 2016, triple j announced it was reviewing the date of its Hottest 100, after a social media campaign called for the countdown to be moved so that it no longer takes place on 26th January, which is Australia Day.
Ahead of tomorrow’s Hottest 100 of 2016 countdown, the broadcaster has updated listeners on the progress of its date review, and has let punters know that they’ll soon be able to have their say on the issue.
Triple j says its review will continue throughout the first half of 2017, and will see the station consult with a variety of groups about the different perspectives surrounding 26th January.
The broadcaster is currently consulting with the ABC Bonner Committee, which is the ABC‘s primary advisory body “on issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, content and communities”.
Triple j says it’s also in discussions with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander media, language groups and “many” of the Indigenous artists it features on its stations. The broadcaster is also consulting with organisations like Reconciliation Australia, National Congress of Australia’s First Peoples, Recognise and the National Australia Day Council.
Triple j says its listeners will have the chance to share their thoughts about the date of the Hottest 100 “later this year”, before the station comes to a final decision.
Triple j will broadcast the results of its 2016 Hottest 100 from midday AEDT tomorrow, 26th January. Find the start time for your state, below.
