triple j Reveals First J Award 2014 Nominees

Now that we’re in November, we’re also technically in Ausmusic Month, triple j‘s annual celebration of Australian music. The public broadcaster has now revealed the first handful of nominees for the Australian Album Of The Year J Award, naming Melbourne producer Chet Faker, Sydney band The Preatures, as well as #1 Dads, Remi, Total Control, and festival favourites Ball Park Music.

Chet Faker has been one of the most buzzed artists of 2014, and has already picked up a slew of awards and nominations for his debut album Built On Glass. Voted Best Electronic Act by Music Victoria, and having dominated this year’s ARIA nominations, we’d say Chet Faker is a definite favourite to take out the Australian Album Of The Year J Award.

That said, the other nominees in this first group have also had fantastic years. The Preatures, who released their debut album Blue Planet Eyes in September, are set to begin their extensive Australian tour later this month.

Melbourne three-piece Remi have also been nominated for their second album Raw x Infinity, while #1 Dads, post-punk group Total Control and Brisbane indie-rockers Ball Park Music have received their respective nods for this year’s efforts.

The 2014 J Awards will also includes prizes for Australian Music Video of the Year, Unearthed Artist of the Year and the inaugural Double J Artist of the Year award. Further nominees for all four awards will be announced in the coming weeks, with the winners revealed in Melbourne on Tuesday, 18th November. The J Awards ceremony will be broadcast live on triple j from 5pm.
