Speaking with triple j today, frontman Matthew Murphy said the trio are working on the follow-up to 2015’s Glitterbug, which apparently isn’t too far off.
“We’re making an effort to not take as long as we have done between previous albums so this one’s going to be out quicker than you would think,” Murphy said.
“It’ll be the back-end of the summer – if not the album then a single.”
Murphy was likely referring to ‘The English Summer’ there, so we’re probably looking at somewhere between June and September for that juicy new Wombats material.
Speaking of the new music, Murphy said he’s currently deep in the writing process.
“I’ve been working out here in LA on new stuff and gonna go see [bandmates] Dan [Haggis] and Tord [Øverland Knudsen] in two weeks in Oslo to work on even more stuff,” he said.
“There’s lots of songs in the works and there’s going to be more once we get to Oslo.”
When The Wombats released Glitterbug two years ago, the band became triple j second most played act of that year, so their next effort is clearly highly anticipated.
