The Team Behind The Acclaimed Amy Winehouse Doco Are Making One About Oasis Now

The team behind this year’s record-breaking Amy Winehouse documentary Amy have reportedly started work on a feature-length doco about Oasis.

Director Asif Kapadia and producer James Gay-Rees will follow up their critically acclaimed work on Amy by teaming with director Mat Whitecross (Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll) to produce the new Oasis-based movie which, according to Screen Daily, will “chart the journey from the moment in 1991 when Noel joined his brother Liam’s band”.

Screen also reports that “the film-makers have been given ‘unprecedented’ access to the band and unseen archive footage”, in the same way that they were for Amy, and in the same way that fellow director Brett Morgen was for this year’s other smash music doco, the Kurt Cobain-themed Montage Of Heck.

Independent Film Sales are expected to launch the film at industry event AFM, which takes place between November 4th-11th (so basically this time next year!)

Andrew Orr, managing director at Independent, commented to Screen: “Oasis are without doubt one of the classic British rock bands, selling 70 million albums worldwide and defining the sound of a whole era.

“At its heart are Liam and Noel Gallagher, two of the finest rock ‘n’ roll stars this country has ever produced. Mat’s sensibility and style are going to provide the perfect complement to this tale of the rise of one of the great rock ‘n’ roll bands.”

Amy, meanwhile, recently became the second biggest documentary ever at the UK box office, grossing £3.44million. It currently has an 8/10 user rating on IMDB and a huge 96% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

To get yourself amped up, you can catch Noel Gallagher performing with his High Flying Birds at Byron Bay next year at Bluesfest 2016.
