The Smashing Pumpkins Pair With Tommy Lee For New Track ‘Being Beige’

The Smashing Pumpkins are back with new tune Being Beige from the band’s upcoming 10th studio album Monuments To An Elegy. The songs opens with some keys and acoustic plucking while head Pumpkin Billy Corgan muses “I don’t love you / For what it’s worth”.

From there Being Beige builds into the kind of uplifting rock power ballad we’ve come to know and love from The Pumpkins nowadays. Being Beige marks the first song released by The Pumpkins since Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee joined the band.

Lee, who plays drums on every track for Monuments To An Elegy, replaced former drummer Mike Byrne, whose split from The Pumpkins was confirmed in June.

When questioned on the meaning of Being Beige, Corgan admitted he wasn’t entirely sure, but it may have come from his increasingly deep connection to the universe. “People always ask me to explain songs, and honestly I can’t,” Corgan told Rolling Stone. “But if there’s honesty in this lyric, it’s that there’s something amiss in our cosmos. Yet still, we must love.”

Hopefully you’ll like Being Beige as much as we do. Corgan has threatened to disband The Smashing Pumpkins if Monuments To An Elegy and next year’s follow-up LP, Day For Night, don’t make a notable splash with listeners.

“I’m not willing to wait around 15 to 20 years to have somebody go, ‘Hey, that album that you made is really good.’ And then sell it to the 7,000 people that are still paying attention,” Corgan told The Chicago Tribune in August.

Monuments To An Elegy and Day For Night are part of Pumpkin’s record project Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, which began with 2010 EP Songs For A Sailor, includes 2012 LP Oceania, and will end with Day For Night in 2015.

Monuments To An Elegy is set for US release on 9th December. You can listen to new tune Being Beige below.
