The Smashing Pumpkins Announce Two New Albums For 2015

The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan announced on the band’s website today that they will release two new albums in 2015, Monuments To An Elegy and Day For Night, and hope to have a new single out by the end of the year. The news comes after the band inked a new deal with label BMG.

“For those interested in sound, think: ‘guitars, guitars, guitars, and more guitars;’ but more so on the epic side of things than say, grossly metallic,” wrote Corgan on The Panopticon, The Smashing Pumpkins’ new official website.

Corgan said the band kicked off recording sessions Tuesday, noting that most of the songs have already been written and are ready to go. Taking charge of the production reigns is Howard Willing, who started working with the band on their 1998 album, Adore.

Fans will be able to follow the progression of the recording sessions, via The Panopticon, where Corgan said they’ll post “song titles, lyrics, poetic impressions, pictures, sound clips, studio gear and the like offered for a circuitous, bird’s eye view of the process as it unfolds.” Corgan said “through its simplicity” the site “should better address the speed of modern life.”

The albums will provide a follow up to 2012's Oceania. The Pumpkins reissued their 1995 classic Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness last year, and Corgan recently hosted an eight-hour electronic jam based around Herman Hesse‘s 1922 existentialist novella, Siddhartha, about a young man’s quest for self-discovery.
