The Rolling Stones And Foo Fighters May Return Down Under In 2014

Rock & roll legends The Rolling Stones are reportedly being vied for by the South Australian government, who are looking to stage a Stones show at the redeveloped Adelaide Oval. The Advertiser reports that they are tipped to play the first ever show at the refurbished arena.

According to the paper, “top-level sources” have indicated that Frontier Touring and another, unnamed promoter are in talks to return the Stones to Australia for a stadium tour, including a show at the 70,000 seat Adelaide Oval. The report also mentioned Foo Figthers and Bruce Springsteen.

So far no one from Frontier Touring or Adelaide Oval management have commented on the rumours. South Austraia Premier Jay Weatherill said “There is a lot of speculation about the opening of Adelaide Oval but at this stage it is just speculation.”

Meanwhile, SA opposition leader Steven Marshall has chastised the government’s spending priorities, implying that the reported “several million dollars” the government would have to fork out to attract the Stones is fiscally irresponsible.

If successful, the negotiations will see the Stones play their first Adelaide show since 1995, when they performed at Football Park. The band previously performed in Adelaide in 1965 at Centennial Hall and at Memorial Drive in 1973.

Adelaide was not on the band’s agenda in 2006, when they were here as part of their A Bigger Bang tour, playing only Sydney and Melbourne shows.
