The Jesus And Mary Chain To Return With New Album In 2017

The Jesus And Mary Chain are gearing up to release their first new material in almost two decades. The iconic Scottish post-punks’ record label has announced the band’s brand new album will be arriving in March of 2017, marking their first full-length record since 1998’s Munki.

“The Jesus And Mary Chain will be dropping their new record March 2017.. on Warners… of course!!!” writes Creation Records, who signed the Mary Chain in 1984, in a statement on Facebook.

It comes after Creation founder and longtime manager Alan McGee let the cat out of the bag in a chat with the CBC earlier this week.

“They’ve made another album!” he announced. “It’s a big deal! It’s unbelievable. They’ve just made an album and I’ve signed them to Warners!”

New material from the Mary Chain really is a big deal. With almost 20 years between albums, it’s going to be interesting to see how the band’s sound has developed. Although singer Jim Reid previously described the early results of their studio sessions as “more of a mature sound for the Mary Chain” in a 2015 interview with Time Out.

The band last toured Australia in 2015 for the 30th anniversary of Psychocandy, but with a new album on the way, hopefully we’ll be seeing their gravity-defying hair do’s again real soon.
