The Getaway Plan, Saskwatch Score Arts Victoria Grants

Melbourne outfits The Getaway Plan, Saskwatch and Fraser A. Gorman are amongst the recipients of the latest round of Arts Victoria grants which will provide $1.4 million to artists and arts organisations across the state.

The State’s Minister for the Arts Heidi Victoria today announced the VicArts Grants program, revealing that The Getaway Plan will be receiving $13,168 that will be used for the recording and release of a full-length album to follow up this year’s Nose Dive.

The band have themselves set up their own crowd-funding pledge campaign, to raise the necessary funds to create and release their first ever independent full length record, already named Dark Horses. According to the band’s Facebook page, they are in the final stages of writing the record and are preparing to head into the studio.

Other grant recipients include Melbourne soul sensation Saskwatch, who are currently on the road taking their tunes to venues across the Unites States. They will be receiving a $21,000 grant to go towards the recording of another album.

23-year-old Melbourne muso Fraser A. Gorman has been awarded $10,000 for the promotion and presentation of his debut full-length. Having recently signed with indie label Marathon Artists, Gorman has announced he will deliver his debut album in early 2015.

Other grant recipients include folk-act Sweet Jean, hip-hop electronic duo Milwaukee Banks and electronic artist Ben Abraham whose album will include 13 complementary new visual works by a Victorian artist, one for each song on the album.

Additionally, $10,000 will go towards the composition and recording of new work by refugee hip-hop act FLYBZ, set to feature guest vocalists Paul Kelly and Ella Hooper. Head to the Arts Victoria website to check out all the latest grant recipients.
