Melbourne rabble-rousers The Bennies like to party.
“But where is the evidence of this?” you ask.
Well, not only is their latest single called Party Machine, they’ve just unleashed a new line of merch and promotional artwork that would make Pete Doherty on a Saturday night look like a playdate with Milhouse Van Houten.
That may be a bit of an overstatement but you get the idea.
Not only have The Bennies emblazoned their party-loving credo in shirt-form, they’ve tapped in to some of the success of fellow elite musical Melbournite, Courtney Barnett to get it done.
To give you a bit of context, the entire world has pretty much been hucking awards at Barnett left and right, following the release of her critically frothed-over album, Sometimes I Sit And Think And Sometimes I Just Sit. Among them, she got hit with a Best Cover Art ARIA for her debut LP.
And her trademark plain, understated artwork was then taken to a whole new level with the release of her single, Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go To The Party, which is basically just black writing on a white background:
But the Bennies have called bullshit on Barnett with their own new artwork. Because they care, Courtney. They care.
You can get your mits on The Bennies new merch line via Big Cartel.
Meanwhile, we’ll be excited to see if Courtney Barnett end up partying with the band after they play together at Falls Festival Lorne this New Years.
