Things are about to get hairy, because Australia’s most bewhiskered band The Beards are back on home turf – and to celebrate a decade of razor-free living – they’ll be preparing to unleash a special double-album to commemorate the milestone.
“When we started out, we didn’t anticipate just how much global demand there would be for songs about beards,” reflects frontman, Johann Beardraven. “It’s been really amazing to discover that so many other people around the world share our unwavering enthusiasm when it comes to beards.”
Since forming in 2005 with the intention of playing just one show, The Beards have gone on to release four albums of original songs about beards, play sold out shows throughout Europe, Australia and North America, receive two ARIA Award nominations, and single-beardedly start a worldwide facial hair revolution.
“Beards have seen an overwhelming global resurgence over the last ten years,” explains bassist Nathaniel Beard. “I think it’s fair to say that we’ve played an instrumental role in that – both literally and figuratively.”
The Beards will also be releasing a brand new single as well as the aforementioned double album, consisting of a ‘best of’ compilation, rarities, and a live album recorded at a packed show at Sydney’s Metro Theatre earlier this year.
“We just really enjoy beards,” says Johann Beardraven.
