System Of A Down Confirm A New Album Is Coming Soon

Turns out System Of A Down weren’t feeding us lies from the tablecloth when they teased that they were up to something big.

After months of speculation, the iconic metal act have finally confirmed what we were all hoping for: they’ve got a new album in the works, marking their first release in over a decade (yep, it’s really been that long).

According to drummer John Dolmayan, SOAD have been had their heads down & arses up in the studio for the past six months, punching out a whopping 15 “album-worthy” new tracks.

Speaking to Kerrang (via Exclaim), Dolmayan hints that the new LP could drop next year. “There’s a tremendous amount of pressure on us, though, because it’s been 11 years – at least 12 by the time it comes out,” he says.

So what can we expect from the follow-up to 2005’s double album, Mezmerize/Hypnotize?

“Our playing ability is better than it ever has been” Dolmayan says, while cautioning fans not to expect any kind of old material rehash.

“We’re not trying to make Toxicity Part II, just because it was by far our biggest album.

“This needs to be something for a new generation of SOAD fans, so everyone can see we’re not resting on our laurels. I’m not gonna put my name on an album I’m not 100 percent proud of.”

So there you have it, they have not forsaken us.

Get excited, people!
