Well, stone the flamin’ crows! Ed Sheeran is heading to Summer Bay. That’s right, the Pommy troubadour has rubber-stamped his love of Australia in the most official way possible, by making a cameo on our longest running soapie, Home And Away.
Sheeran was snapped taking some time out from his sold-out Aussie tour, on location at Sydney’s Palm Beach, alongside actress Emily Symons, who plays Marilyn on the show.
Home and Away has been quick to spruik Sheeran’s upcoming cameo, confirming via Twitter that the singer-songwriter will be starring in a forthcoming episode: “Yes, we can confirm @edsheeran was in #SummerBay today…Bet you can’t wait to find out why…”
“He will appear as himself in the series,” a spokesperson for the show later revealed to the Daily Mail. “But the storyline details about what brings Ed to Summer Bay are being kept under wraps for now.”
Sheeran is the biggest musician to appear on the iconic soapie — which the ginger tunesmith described as an “Australian institution” — since John Farnham’s late ’80s visit.
“It’s always on in my local chip shop,” Sheeran toldNews Corp. “I got asked to do it and it sounded like it could be fun… I have got a point where I really, really don’t care what people think so I’m doing stuff because I enjoy it now rather than because it might be cool. I am just in it for fun.”
Sheeran, who has also just dropped the official music video for his tune Bloodstream with Rudimental (below), will also film a guest spot on The Voice before taking his tour down to Melbourne, this weekend.
His upcoming Home And Away episode is slated to air, later this year. Closer each day…
