Semi-fictitious heavy metal outfit Spinal Tap may be getting back together in 2014, with Christopher Guest hinting that we may be seeing a resurgence of the band made famous in the 1984 mockumentary This is Spinal Tap.
The actor was being interviewed to promote his new sitcom Family Tree, which premiered on HBO in May, but talk quickly came back to Spinal Tap. Guest told The Observer, “We get asked to do shows on a regular basis. But what I will say is that we’re in the midst of talking about something for next year…”
Spinal Tap were last seen playing the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury in 2009, with Guest saying, “It was a fantastic show. There were 130,000 people there or something. Since the film 30 years ago we’ve gone on tour, playing Wembley, the Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall. It’s weird but great. The fiction became real.”
The fictitious-cum-non-fictitious band is made up of Guest as guitarist Nigel Tufnel, Michael McKean as singer David St. Hubbins and Harry Shearer as drummer Derek Smalls.
