Aussie TV institution Spicks And Specks has been confirmed for a new season, with the debut episode reportedly being filmed this week. It’ll still be a music-themed quiz show with the same family-friendly time slot, but Spicks And Specks 2.0 will be running on a totally new operating system.
The original cast we’ve all grown to know and love — Alan Brough, Adam Hills and Myf Warhurst — will no longer be occupying the plush seats. The new cast will instead feature funny-man Josh Earl, Melbourne radio host Adam Richard, and singer Ella Hooper of Killing Heidi fame.
So far, no one at the ABC has been able to confirm the news, but official word on the program’s return is expected to come with the network’s 2014 schedule plugs, which kick off next month. One ABC source told Fairfax Media:
“We can’t confirm anything. But I think people involved in the series have gotten a bit excited and told their friends and it’s leaked out.”
There’s also been a few “no comments” and even an “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” after Adam Richard was put on the spot by a curious Twitter follower.
The series in its original format ended in 2011, once the original cast reportedly grew tired of the concept. The show experienced a number of successful spin-offs including A Very Specky Christmas and the show’s Best Of… edition, which garnered the show’s highest ratings.
