Sleater-Kinney Reunite At Pearl Jam Show

Indie rock trio Sleater-Kinney have appeared on stage together for the first time in almost a decade, during a Pearl Jam concert in Portland. The three joined the grunge legends, as well as R.E.M. members Scott McCaughey and Peter Buck to perform Neil Young‘s Rockin’ in the Free World.

Sleater-Kinney, made up of vocalist/guitarist Corin Tucker, guitarist Carrie Brownstein, and drummer Janet Weiss, went on hiatus following a tour in support of their lauded 2005 release, The Woods, after a period during which members of the group hinted at disbanding in interviews.

Since the group’s last show in 2006, Tucker has released two albums with her eponymous band, Weiss has collaborated with former Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus as well as with Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron and Death GripsZach Hill, while Brownstein is a cast member on Portlandia.

Brownstein created the sketch comedy series with Fred Armisen and is currently in production on the show’s fourth season. News of Sleater-Kinney’s impromptu reunion has led some to speculate that they may be one of the US bands set to replace Blur at Big Day Out 2014.

During an interview with Triple J‘s Lindsay “The Doctor” McDougall, BDO promoter AJ Maddah mentioned that a guitarist in one of the US bands set to replace Blur had “TV commitments,” with Ink Master host Dave Navarro ruling himself and his band Jane’s Addiction out on Twitter.
