The Newcastle Herald reports, the 35-year-old musician was pulled over by police while driving his black Jaguar above the speed limit in his home suburb of Merewether, in Newcastle, on October 28th. Police facts tendered to court said he registered a blood alcohol level of 0.126.
Johns reportedly told police he had four large wines between 4.30pm and 7.40pm. In court today, Johns was referred to a traffic offenders program, which he has been instructed to attend for several weeks to learn how drugs and alcohol affect driving.
“I just made a mistake that I regret and luckily no one got hurt,” he told Channel Nine outside the court. “And I definitely won’t do it again.” Johns is expected to return to court on February 26th for sentencing.
Silverchair are currently on an indefinite hiatus. In January, Johns confirmed he was working on solo material and said he plans on releasing his first solo album some time this year. He is reportedly collaborating with the mastermind behind Lorde’s sterling debut Pure Heroine, producer and songwriter Joel Little, along with Empire Of The Sun’s main man Luke Steele.
Recently, Johns appeared on a few tracks from 360's latest effort, Utopia, plus he co-wrote a number of songs on Kimbra’s second album, The Golden Echo.
