Shadows Fall have announced that they will take a hiatus from “future extensive touring”. In a statement on their Facebook page, the Massachusetts metal outfit explained that their decision has been motivated by a desire to spend time with their families and thanked fans for their support.
“The band has been touring non-stop for over a decade and has decided that it’s time to ‘take a hiatus’ from future extensive touring,” they write, announcing a final European tour and plans for a final North American run, with the possibility of visiting “a few other territories… over the next year.”
“In a nutshell it comes down to families, member availability, and finances,” they continue. “Touring full time in a band these days has never been more difficult financially. When you have to ensure the future comfort of your family, difficult decisions have to be made.” Also impacting their decision is guitarist Jon Donais‘ commitments to Anthrax. Donais will not be appearing on the European tour.
“This has been a real hard decision for all of us to make but we feel at this time this is the right thing to do. We don’t hate each other, we’re not bitter, we in fact still have a really great time together, but the ride has slowed down and it’s time for the next chapters in our lives, whatever that may be.”
The band sign off by thanking the fans they’ve amassed over “the past decade and a half,” writing, “Without you, none of this would have been possible.” The metal masters assure fans that “you still may see us at a festival or two over the next few years,” adding, “If they ask, we will come!”
Shadows Fall last appeared in Australia as part of the 2012 Soundwave Festival, sharing stages with the likes of System of a Down and Slipknot. They also played a series of Sidewaves with Machine Head, Chimaira, and Times of Grace – check out images from their Sydney show below.
