Science Discovers, Dolphins Enjoy Radiohead

A study has revealed that dolphins have a penchant for the moody, brooding soundscapes of Thom Yorke and his band of merry men. Investigating the sonic vibes our Maritime cousins can get down to, the study revealed once and for all revealed that dolphins dig Radiohead.

The study was undertaken by the team at Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas. Yoga With The Dolphins instructor Willow Withy has thrown his weight behind the research, explaining in an interview that it isn’t just any Radiohead, but King Of Limbs-era Radiohead:

“Our dolphins seem to really resonate with Radiohead music, and especially the song Lotus Flower. As soon as I put it on, they come up to the window and their play patterns become more fluid, friendly, and they are curious about what is going on in the yoga room.

“They rub against the windows, walls, and express more sensory connection. It feels like mutually shared experience as they appreciate the yoga and music together. I would say they are happy.”

They seem to fit the bill of Radiohead fans, though they have rather eclectic taste in music, with findings also revealing the nifty sitar work of Anoushka Shankar to be a hit amongst those with dorsal fins.

Tori Cullins of the Wild Dolphin Foundation has explained that the change in behaviour is undeniable, with the creatures demonstrating tell-tale, or should I say, tell-tail signs of euphoria.

“The percussive tunes seem to provoke the most interesting responses. It is a tell-tale sign that when they look into the windows, that the sounds are changing their behavior,” she says. “It is common knowledge among our community that they like new-agey music like Enya. Rock music seems to stress them and jazz is the worst, while classical and country music has seen them relaxed.”

No dolphins have yet commented.
