Ready Your Opinions: Fall Out Boy Are Back With An Adventurous New Single

Fall Out Boy have returned to the airwaves with a new song called ‘Young And Menace’ off their just-announced forthcoming album M A N I A, and frankly it’s all quite a bit to process.

The veteran pop-punks have gone deeper down the EDM rabbit hole than ever before on this fresh single, which interestingly also simultaneously feels like one of the heaviest things we’ve heard from them in years.

The band have always been strong melody-smiths and engaging lyricists and that skill is back on full display in the verses of ‘Young And Menace’ (lines like “I’m just here for the psych assessment” and “I’ve lived so much life that I think that God is gonna have to kill me twice like my name was Nikki Sixx” are instant classics) but it’s the chorus that’s probably going to have fans divided, which TBH sounds like a group of Transformers gang-banging a transmitter radio. Which may not be a bad thing? Maybe?

It’s definitely going to be interesting to see how they pull it off live.

Anyway, FOB have also dished up a terrifying Jim Henson acid trip of a music video for the tune, which is cinematic as hell and filled with creey-ass puppets.

“The concept is the idea of a movie like Elf, where he realizes maybe he isn’t an elf after all, but ours has less comedic elements and more real world implication,” bassist Pete Wentz explains.

See what you make of it all below.

Meanwhile, the genre-bending M A N I Acs follow-up to 2015’s American Beauty/American Psycho LP is due out on Friday, 15th September and they’ve already announced a bunch of new North American tour dates to celebrate.
