To be eligible for the list you had to had to have released your first album or single in 1992 or earlier which resulted in this list of legends.
On top of Rage, Radiohead and Bon Jovi, a bunch of other acts have been nominated including Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, Judas Priest, Kate Bush and LL Cool J.
This is the first year that Rage and Radiohead have been eligible and they scored a place on the list straight away. Radiohead released ‘Creep’ in 1992 while Rage Against The Machine their debut self-titled album.
Some artists on the list are veteran nominees without ever having been inducted. LL Cool J has been nominated four times while Bon Jovi and Depeche Mode have been nominated twice.
The public will be able to submit their votes for who they believe should be inducted alongside artists, music industry insiders and historians. Votes close on 5th December and the five acts with the highest amount of votes will be inducted during a ceremony in April.
Once again, the Rock Hall Of Fame is choosing which individual members of the band will be inducted. For example, Richie Sambora will be inducted as part of Bon Jovi even though he left in 2013.
This caused plenty of controversy last year when Pearl Jam drummer Dave Abbruzzese was not included as part of the induction. He called it “bullshit”.
While he was annoyed about not being included, some bands aren’t phased by the Hall Of Fame at all like this year’s nominees Radiohead.
“I don’t want to be rude about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because for a lot of people it means something, but culturally I don’t understand it,” guitarist Ed O’Brien told Rolling Stone.
“But if you ask me what I’d rather be doing that night, I’d rather be sitting at home in front of the fire or going to a gig.”
We’ll see next year, if they are chosen for induction, whether or not they show up.
