Rage Against The Machine May Have Played Their Final Gig

According to drummer Brad Wilk, Rage Against the Machine may have already played their last show and if that’s the case he has made his peace with it. The band has not played live since headlining its own L.A. Rising festival show in Los Angeles in 2011.

The drummer made the comment while speaking with The Pulse of Radio (via Blabbermouth). “As far as I know, we played our last show in 2011 at the Coliseum, and if that was our last show, that’s a good way to go out,” he explained.

“I had sort of had to put it in my head that that band is over in order for me to just move on with my life, to be honest with you,” he continued. “So that’s kind of where that lies. The Coliseum — awesome way to go out.”

The news should not come as a total surprise to RATM fans, guitarist Tom Morello has also hinted in recent years that Rage may be over. In 2012 the hype surrounding the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut went by with only a special edition release and no performances.

RATM broke up officially one before in 2000, after recording three original studio albums and one set of covers. They reformed in 2007, playing some gigs but never went on a full tour. In 2012, Morello revealed the band’s reluctance to play live shows, telling Rolling Stone, “Once a year, the band meets and very seriously discusses and turns down awesome offers to tour the world. That’s part of the program.”

Morello was most recently in the country as a part of Bruce Springsteen‘s E Street Band, while, in the time since Rage’s last show, Wilk has played drums in the studio for Black Sabbath, joined the all-star shows for Dave Grohl‘s Sound City documentary and joined the new band The Last Internationale.
