Radiohead have come good on earlier claims that they planned on recording new material before the end of the year, with band member Jonny Greenwood confirming Radiohead is in the studio right now “playing and recording”.
In an interview with BBC Radio 1 (at the 1:34:00 mark), via Consequence of Sound, the guitarist confirmed the band have in fact already made their way into studio. “I’m late, they’ve all gone there now,” Greenwood said, adding that they are still uncertain what direction the new record will take.
“I always feel as when we start up like we still don’t know really how to do it, and we don’t know quite what to do,” he said. “Every time we try and do it like the last time, because that worked, it never seems to work. So we talk about different approaches and we’re currently trying a bunch out.”
The record, however it turns out, will follow up 2011's The King of Limbs which saw the band return to Australia the following year after an eight-year absence. Earlier this year, the guitarist revealed Radiohead’s plans to enter the studio in September, where they planned on “playing, rehearsing and recording and see how it’s sounding.”
Frontman Thom Yorke‘s time should be freed up, now that he released, rather unexpectedly, his latest solo album Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, via file-sharing site BitTorrent.
