We’ve been thoroughly enjoying the bromance between Palm Desert rockers Queens of the Stone Age and Sheffield indie heroes Arctic Monkeys, and QOTSA took the lovin’ a step further by covering the Monkeys’ single Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?
QOTSA’s take on Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High? was a part of their performance on BBC1‘s Live Lounge back in June, but has only just seen the light of day. Homme and company do a fairly underwhelming interpretation of the track, to be honest, turning the slinky number into a stripped back yet unwieldy affair. But it’s QOTSA, so it’s still good, y’know?
The track is from the Monkey’s brand-new fifth studio album, AM, which Josh Homme himself contributed to and described as “a really cool, sexy after-midnight record”.
Both Queens Of The Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys have promised to bring their live act our way in 2014, with QOTSA saying they’ll be Down Under next autumn, while the Monkeys want to get here while the sun’s still out.
