Ageless celestial being Prince has penned a moving tribute song to Freddie Gray and the people of Baltimore after the civil unrest that broke out in the US city last month.
Baltimore is Prince’s response to the turbulent few weeks which began after Gray died due to injuries sustained whilst being taking into police custody, with violent clashes between protesters and police causing the city to be declared a state of emergency.
In the upbeat tune, which features vocals from Eryn Allen Kane, Prince asks for peace and justice and pleads to “take all the guns away”. The SoundCloud description of the track also furthers Prince’s message of harmony:
“Please know that all involved in this project never take for granted the privileges we have in this country. Let’s all continue to fight the good fight and confront inhumanity on every level until the day it is no longer.”
