A man who suffered a heart attack during The Pogues‘ appearance supporting The Libertines at the recent British Summer Time festival in Hyde Park is looking for the crowd member who saved his life. The unidentified punter reportedly performed CPR on Andrew Plank before paramedics arrived.
As The Irish Post reports, the Irish folk punk legends stopped their set to tell the crowd to let paramedics through. The 46-year-old was revived with a defibrillator and is now recovering in Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital in Westminster, London thanks to the paramedics and the heroic stranger.
“From what we’ve been told by the hospital, there was a stranger in the crowd who performed CPR for 10 minutes and it’s down to the fact that he performed CPR that we’ve still got my wife’s uncle,” Plank’s nephew-in-law Lloyd Smith told the Post. “His heart stopped for those 10 minutes.”
“When you hear the day-to-day horror stories in the news, it’s just wonderful to know that there are people out there who care about their fellow human beings and we’d just like to thank them and let them know that they are a special person and appreciated by our whole family,” Smith added.
Upon waking up, Plank reportedly did not remember the incident and was more concerned about the status of his favourite Pogues t-shirt.”He’s a long-time fan of The Pogues,” explained Smith. “When he woke up, he asked where his t-shirt was and the paramedics had cut it off. It’s his favourite t-shirt and he was more angry about losing his favourite Pogues t-shirt than anything!”
The Libertines, who were headlining the day’s performances, also saw their share of incidents. According to the NME, the UK indie favourites were forced to halt their set twice due to members of the crowd being crushed. Up to 30 people were reportedly left with minor injuries on the day.
The Pogues want to send out good wishes to the young man who had to be pulled from the crowd last night. Thinking of him & wishing him well.
