Pharrell, Nile Rodgers and Stevie Wonder To Join Daft Punk At Grammys

Drummer Omar Hakim has confirmed in a recent interview that he along with other musical luminaries Pharrell, Nile Rodgers, and Stevie Wonder will be performing with Daft Punk for their first live TV performance in six years at the 2014 Grammys.

Hakim, who also contributed to several tracks on the French duo’s album Random Access Memories, talks candidly in the interview (whilst simultaneously trying on clothes) about his new solo record and about his surprise in getting a phone call to work with Daft Punk. “Daft Punk wants acoustic drums on a record? I thought that was so weird,” said Hakim.

While trying on a red and blue floral printed number, the legendary drummer let out some details about the impending Grammys performance. “I think typically they just go out as a duo and they just kind of DJ with a keyboard player, they do that, so this is also going to be new for them to have a band on stage,” he said. Adding, “and evidently Stevie Wonder is joining us and Pharrell and Nile [Rodgers], I’m looking forward to it.”

Despite having one of the biggest record of the year with Random Accesss Memories, the enigma that is Daft Punk has refrained from any public performances since the record dropped. The robotic electro duo are well set to take the stage at the 2014 Grammy Awards on 26 January joining Kendrick Lamar, Imagine Dragons, Pink and Fun.‘s Nate Ruess onstage for the live event.
