“Slow down, world, you move too fast for me,” sings Sydney electronic artist Oliver Tank on Different Speed, a collaboration with Perth producer Ta-ku. It’s the first taste of his upcoming EP, slated for release later this year, and its lush ambient sounds will certainly make it feel like the world has stopped turning.
Two years have passed since Tank released the hypnotic Dreams EP, first charming listeners with his signature brand of layered, atmospheric electronica. The past two years have seen Tank playing high-profile support slots and a slew of lauded festival appearances. New single Different Speeds is an indication that the full schedule hasn’t slowed down Tank the producer in the least.
Tank and Ta-ku first connected over Twitter, with Tank working on the vocals and melodies of the song and Ta-ku providing “delicate, down-tempo beats.” Tank then gave the track his patented style by working in layers of deep, ambient sounds. The result is a dreamy, minimal, earthy track for fans to chill out to. Readers can check out Different Speeds below.
To celebrate the new single and the imminent release of Tank’s new EP, he’ll be hitting the road to support Lorde during her sold out Australian tour, before joining Active Child during his Melbourne Arts Festival slot. Tank’s attention will then turn to summer festival season, with spots at Meredith, Falls, and Southbound lined up.
