Paul McCartney joined the remaining members of Nirvana – drummer Dave Grohl, bass player Krist Novoselic and guitarist Pat Smear – to perform a selection of hits during a concert in Seattle. It was the first time any incarnation of Nirvana has performed in their hometown since 8th January, 1994.
During the Seattle stop of McCartney’s Out There tour on 19th July, Grohl, Novoselic and Smear first joined the former Beatle onstage at Safeco Field for Cut Me Some Slack, sticking around for performances of Beatles favourites Get Back, Long Tall Sally, Helter Skelter and set closer The End.
Cut Me Some Slack comes from Grohl and McCartney’s collaboration on the soundtrack to Grohl’s Sound City documentary project, which details the history of LA’s Sound City Studios. Two decades ago, Nirvana recorded Nevermind at the studio with producer Butch Vig.
The film features interviews with Vig, McCartney, Tom Petty, Rivers Cuomo, Trent Reznor, John Fogerty, Corey Taylor, Rick Rubin and Josh Homme, to name just a few.
